Coles to stay open longer in WA lockdown | Ralph-Lauren

A number of Coles supermarkets in Western Australia have been allowed to stay open longer to help shoppers during the five-day lockdown.

The WA government granted an extended trading permit overnight to Coles stores in Perth, Peel and the South West after an application to the Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety.

Those stores will be allowed to open their doors from 7am from Monday February 1 to Friday February 5.

Commissioner for Consumer Protection Lanie Chopping said the extended hours in locked-down areas will give more people the opportunity to shop.

“Especially those who may be considered essential workers and may not be able to go during normal trading hours,” she said.

She said no other supermarkets had so far lodged applications to extend trading hours during the lockdown, which started on Sunday evening.

Shoppers around Perth swarmed supermarkets on Sunday to panic-buy supplies moments after the lockdown was announced.

Long queues formed outside Coles in Maylands, which is one of the potential virus exposure sites.

The lockdown was brought in after a quarantine security guard at the Sheraton Four Points hotel in Perth tested positive for coronavirus.
