Close to 100 shooters from around WA took part in a successful January Trap Carnival at Albany Clay Target Club at the weekend.

More than 30,000 clay targets were used in one of the State’s major events, held in ideal conditions at the Albany club, situated 2km north of Bakers Junction.

WA Gun Club member William Freni-Lizzi was victorious in the high-gun event, part of the three-day competition that attracted one of its biggest turnouts in recent years.

Freni-Lizzi shot an impressive score of 382 out of a possible 385 over the three days to be the overall winner and the open-class winner.

He won or placed in four of the seven events.

Luke Fisher from Katanning took out the A-grade competition after shooting 365 while Collie’s Julian Higham won the B-grade division with a score of 366 out of 385.

Liam Fitzpatrick won the C-grade event after shooting 368 while Jacob Featherstone (354/385) won the junior category, Sandra Moffatt (364/385) won the ladies’ division and Vince Oliveri (375/385) took out the veteran class.

Young Wagin shooter Jax Moffatt enjoyed a fantastic weekend as he starred to win the C-grade 50 targets double barrel event.

The 12-year-old hit 48 targets out of a possible 50 in the double-barrel event and went on to win the shoot-off, which was outstanding considering he was the youngest shooter at the event.

Ray Hawke, Matthew Waite, Leon Whittle and Cameron Sims were the best performing Albany locals, with Nathan Blake from Denmark also shooting well.

Albany Clay Target Club president Ollie McPartland said the event was a great success, with competitors keen to come back next year.
