Third seed Ekaterina Alexandrova will take on Barbora Krejcikova, the No.5 seed, in the quarter-finals of the Strasbourg International after both recorded victories on a rain-hit afternoon.

In between the showers on Wednesday, Russia’s Alexandrova, the world No.33, beat French wildcard Clara Burel 6-3 6-4 in 70 minutes, while Krejcikova, of the Czech Republic, came from behind to beat Caroline Garcia 3-6 6-2 6-1.

Fourth seed Yulia Putintseva and Arantxa Rus also progressed after their opponents, Jil Teichmann and Harmony Tan respectively, were forced to retire through injury.

Seventh-seeded American Shelby Rogers was trailing 6-4 2-1 to German qualifier Jule Niemeier when play was suspended for the day.
