Alto Metals has started diamond drilling at Sandstone in WA, targeting gold mineralisation below shallow workings along an important regional shear structure. The maiden 3,000m diamond program below the Lord Nelson pit will be followed by drilling at Vanguard and Indomitable. Alto is currently waiting for results from more than 11,000m of RC drilling at Lord Nelson and Vanguard.
Alto is smashing out the metres at Sandstone with 30,000m of reverse circulation drilling in progress, targeting strike and depth extensions of existing mineralisation proximal to major shear zones.
The company’s 900 sq. km project tenure covers most of the Sandstone Greenstone Belt that has seen more than 1.3 million ounces of gold produced historically.
Alto already boasts resources totalling 331,000 ounces at 1.7 grams per tonne gold, with the Lord Nelson and Lord Henry deposits accounting for 109,000 ounces and 69,000 ounces of gold, respectively. The Indomitable Camp and Vanguard Camp combine for a further 124,000 ounces of gold at Sandstone.
Initial diamond drilling will focus on the 3km-long Lords Corridor extending from the Lord Nelson pit in a southerly direction toward the Lord Henry deposit.
Previous drilling beneath the Lord Nelson pit has returned multiple stellar hits including 16m going 5.2 grams per tonne gold from 240m and 17m at 3.5 g/t gold from 200m in another hole.
Alto plans to move the rig next to the Vanguard Camp, west of Lord Nelson, and then to the Indomitable Camp about 10km north-west of Vanguard.
Vanguard and Indomitable lie along a 20km corridor featuring a number of known deposits within Alto’s Sandstone tenure.
Recent impressive RC drill hits at Vanguard include 12m intercept going at 22.5 g/t gold from 40m depth, with a contained interval of 4m at 60.6 g/t gold. Other drill holes at Vanguard have returned 25m at 3.8 g/t gold from 85m, 18m at 4.3 g/t gold from 122m and 8m going 3.1 g/t gold from just 8m depth.
At Indomitable past drilling returned 43m going 2.2 g/t gold from 60m and 6m at 18.2 g/t gold from 77m.
The diamond drilling campaign is expected to be completed within five weeks and will feed results into mineral resource estimates as well as generating litho-structural data to guide Alto as it seeks to make new discoveries at Sandstone.
Adding to its aggressive drilling focus on the Sandstone Greenstone Belt, the company has added 10,000m to its Lords Corridor RC drilling program. Assays will aid the design of the next major drilling program.
Results from 43 RC holes along the Lords Corridor for more than 9,000m and 2,600m in 13 holes at Vanguard are yet to be released to market.
Alto has been delivering a stream of strong drilling results in 2021, leading to a further lifting of the tempo at Sandstone as the company looks to turn drilling success into a quality development opportunity.
