Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc throws full support behind coach Justin Langer, says group is united | Ralph Lauren

Left-arm tearaway quick Mitchell Starc has thrown his full support behind Australian cricket coach Justin Langer, brushing away any doubt over the West Aussie’s future at the helm.

Criticism has come thick and fast since the team’s shock series loss to India at home, while reports of a rift within the camp added hype to the situation.

Starc – who is under fire himself after a disappointing finish to the series – insists the team is united and Langer’s position is not in any doubt.

“It’s really like a family I guess. You’re on the road together living out of each other’s pockets for 10 months of the year, and certainly for the last period of time we’ve been living in bubbles together,” Starc said on SEN.

“You all live together, and you live the highs and lows.

“We’ve been through some really great times as a group, and Justin’s been the leader of that, and we’ve been through some difficult times.

“We’ll stick together and we’ll sort of reflect on where we’ve been together as a group.

“We’ll plan for what’s coming up, and there’s a few away tours in the winter, and then we’ll come together next summer for the Ashes.”

Starc, 31, has absolutely no doubt Langer will be at the helm for Australia’s next home series against the arch-rivals.

The former Perth Scorchers coach has little game time to tune his players up for the series, with Australia’s cancelled Test tour of South Africa meaning they don’t play any red ball cricket before the Ashes.

“I think you want to keep that group together and hopefully win another Ashes series in Australia,” Starc said.

“Winning another Ashes is a nice little carrot for the whole group, and Justin’s obviously the coach of that.

“I think we’re all looking forward to next summer when we play our next Test cricket.

“We’ll all come together and Justin will lead that, and hopefully to another Ashes series win at home.”
