Bayern Munich international midfielders Leon Goretzka and Javi Martinez have both tested positive for coronavirus.
Both players were said to be “doing well” but will miss the leaders’ Bundesliga game against visiting Hoffenheim on Saturday, the club said on the eve of the game.
Germany midfielder Goretzka is self-isolating at home while former Spain international Martinez has already been self-isolating at home for a few days.
Both players are also likely to miss Bayern’s visit to Hertha Berlin next Friday as well as the Club World Cup in Qatar, unless their results are found to be false positives, as was the case with teammate Serge Gnabry in October.
Bayern also said reserve goalkeeper Alexander Nubel will be out for around a month after sustaining an ankle ligament injury the day before.
The news is a setback for the German champions who had been making smooth progress en route to a ninth successive Bundesliga title as they sit seven points clear at the top.
