In-form Albany trainer Roy Rogers said he was delighted with the performance of Island Charm after running second in the $200,000 Magic Millions WA 3YO Trophy (1200m) at Pinjarra on Saturday.

After a second placing in the two-year-old feature, Rogers backed it up in the three-year-old event with his promising Hinchinbrook filly.

Island Charm settled just behind the leaders and on the back of $2.10 favourite Gemma’s Son in running.

Approaching the home turn, jockey Chris Nicoll peeled out off the back of the favourite to make a three-wide move but was not able to reel in the winner Gemma’s Son who surged clear to salute by 3.2 lengths.

Rogers said it was always going to be difficult to beat Gemma’s Son.

“I thought her effort was really good, she was lucky to go around, really,” he said.

“She slipped over in the tie-up stalls and got an abrasion on her near-fore cannon.

“It was always going to be (tough) to beat Gemma’s Son on the weights but we’re rapt with the run of our horse.

“It instils the fact that we are on target and aren’t just winning races in the bush, it’s a credit to the stable.”

What About Moses, prepared by Steve Wolfe, ran a brave second and Zetorio, from the Rogers yard, came third in the BNL Contracting Handicap (1400m).

After settling fourth in running, What About Moses cruised up three wide around the home turn and shot clear by a length in the straight, but was not able to hold out Bogart, while Zetorio stormed home from near last.

Oxbirdge finished fifth for Wolfe while Sowar was back in 11th in his race.

Rogers also had Echo Effect and Luke’s Gold entered in Pinjarra finishing 11th and 12th respectively.
