Ford’s Anton De Pasquale has smashed the lap record at Darwin’s Hidden Valley Raceway to secure his third-straight Supercars pole.
The Shell V-Power young gun will start at the front of the grid for Saturday’s opening race of the Darwin Triple Crown.
The 25-year-old sits seventh in the championship standings after a slow start to the season but is finding his feet at his new team.
His lap time of 1:05.2904 eclipsed the time set by former Ford champion Scott McLaughlin in 2019.
After winning a race at the last round at Tailem Bend, De Pasquale will fancy his chances of adding another victory after breaking through for his maiden Supercars win in Darwin last year.
“I said to the boys when I came in that I thought the lap was pretty good apart from one mistake,” De Pasquale said.
“The thing was a rocket ship and I sort of just held on for the rest of the lap.
“It’s good to get three (poles) in a row so we’ll try and progress this afternoon.”
De Pasquale will share the front row of the grid with Holden veteran Mark Winterbottom, while championship leader Shane van Gisbergen qualified third.
Van Gisbergen is 190 points in front of Red Bull Ampol teammate Jamie Whincup in the championship standings having won six races already this season, including the opening five.
