Last year’s WAFL grand finalists Claremont will visit the Great Southern for a pre-season camp this weekend, just 45 days from the start of the new season.

The Great Southern is Claremont’s country zone and they will bring a squad of nearly 50 senior players to the training camp in preparation for the 2021 WAFL season, which starts in April.

Claremont will travel on Friday afternoon and will be based at Normans Beach over the three days.

Director of talent Darrell Panizza said it was great the club were returning to the region.

“The Great Southern boys will love it; it’s great they are able to come home and show their teammates where they started,” he said.

“It shows them their journey to get to Claremont and a great opportunity for the boys to come home.

“Claremont want to be part of the community down here and keep the connection with the Great Southern really strong.

“We want to be the best at showing the kids we will help them and look after them in their journey from country to the city and give them the best experience they can.”

Claremont’s new-look coaching group — led by former AFL player Ashley Prescott and including 2007 Sandover medallist Anthony Jones and 1996 North Melbourne AFL premiership player Anthony Rock along with former Tigers star Andrew Foster — will put the group through their paces at the camp.

The senior group will run a football clinic on Sunday at Centennial Stadium while the Claremont futures side will take on the Great Southern Storm, also on Sunday.

More details about the clinics and games will be announced in Thursday’s Albany Advertiser.
