Hair apparent: Freo’s long-locked lock-down defender Alex Pearce shows off free-flowing hair | Ralph Lauren

Before you ask, no it isn’t British comedian Russell Brand in a Fremantle guernsey.

That is Dockers’ defender Alex Pearce rocking the long locks on Fremantle’s photo day, as he prepares to play his first AFL game since round 11 of the 2019 season.

Pearce, 25, is looking fit, strong and free-flowing thanks to his luscious locks which combined with the facial hair give him a stark resemblance to the Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him To The Greek star.

The hair has come along way since when he was drafted, with the then-skinny Tasmanian rocking more of a Ross from Friends hairstyle than that of the popular Brand.

Nicknamed “The Moose”, Pearce has been copping it for the locks for the past few months from current and former teammates, with Max Duffy telling the defender to “lose the hair” all the way to early last year.

The hair is not the first big fashion statement Pearce has made though, with the key position player revealing last year that he got a nose ring while in isolation during the height of COVID-19.

Pearce’s hair, whilst an incredible sight, is still unlikely to be rated the most impressive in the AFL, with West Coast ruckman Nic Naitanui and Melbourne spearhead Ben Brown still the leading contenders.

But it does remind us of some of the better hairstyles over the years, including Melbourne’s Nathan Carroll, who rocked a back mohawk, as well as Peter “Spider” Everitt, who had a range of “funky” looks over the years.

Last year in isolation, the big fad was to dye your hair blonde, with a number of players coming out of lockdown with significantly blonder hair.

Then of course there is the Dusty Martin, which is really just the mohawk, but is a favourite amongst Tigers fans across the country.
