Harry and Meghan rejected royal title for Archie because it contained the word ‘dumb’

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle allegedly rejected a royal title for their son Archie because it contained the word “dumb”.

One of the titles Prince Harry currently holds is Earl of Dumbarton, but sources have told The Telegraph that the Sussexes have ensured the title won’t be inherited by Archie.

“They didn’t like the idea of Archie being called the Earl of Dumbarton because it began with the word ‘dumb’ [and] they were worried about how that might look,” a source said.

“It wasn’t just Meghan who pointed out the potential pitfalls, it also bothered Harry,” added a different source to The Telegraph.

Earl of Dumbarton is a title of Scottish nobility which was created in the Peerage of the United Kingdom in 2018.

The battle over Archie’s royal titles has been raging for months.

It was expected that Archie would become a prince when Charles becomes king.

But Harry and Meghan were allegedly shocked when Charles made it clear to them that Archie would never be a prince.

Meghan touched on the topic in her interview with Oprah, saying: “They didn’t want him to be a prince or princess, not knowing what the gender would be, which would be different from protocol, and (said) that he wasn’t going to receive security.”

Meghan added: “In those months when I was pregnant we have in tandem the conversation of, you won’t be given security, not gonna be given a title and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born.”

Charles reportedly has plans for a slimmed-down monarchy when he becomes sovereign.

Under Charles’ plan, only heirs to the throne and their immediate families would receive full titles and financial and police support funded by taxpayers, the Daily Mail said.

That means Archie won’t be a prince, even though he is seventh in line to the throne.

Charles’ plan has also caused issues with his younger brother, Prince Andrew, over what security Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie should receive in the future.

The royals are ninth, tenth and eleventh in the line of succession, respectively, following the birth of Harry’s daughter Lilibet Diana earlier this month.
