The Dutch news agency ANP says it has been sold to Chris Oomen, an investor from the Netherlands who focuses on companies engaged in social issues.
No details were given about the price.
The press agency was sold by entrepreneur John de Mol, who had bought it in 2018 with his Talpa media group, which spans TV channels and radio stations.
He said the agency no longer fit in with the media group’s profile.
Oomen, 72, made his fortune in derivatives trading and headed a major health insurer for years.
He underlined the agency’s importance.
“ANP is part of the Netherlands’ social heritage. The news agency has been providing our country with independent journalistic facts since 1934, so has an important social mission.”
The management at ANP welcomed the sale.
“Our journalistic independence is guaranteed with this owner,” editor-in-chief Freek Staps said.
The sale is not expected to lead to job cuts.
