Many wonderful memories to cling to | Ralph Lauren

Must Read

I’m not sure what makes the biggest impression on me during my first trip to Kangaroo Island. Is it the cute baby koala swinging from a tree branch or meeting Shoosh the barn owl and Jedda the wedge-tailed eagle during a visit to Raptor Domain?

Perhaps it is the inquisitive sea lion pups peering out from under ledges at Seal Bay or the scenic beauty and the rugged unspoilt coast around Flinders Chase National Park.

Whatever the moment, one thing is certain — visiting Kangaroo Island is a memorable trip.

It begins in Adelaide, where I’m picked up by a bus to cross to the island on the Sealink ferry.

The anticipation built steadily as we roll through the picturesque Fleurieu Peninsula en route to Cape Jervis. It goes up a couple of notches when I spot a whale and pods of dolphins during the 45-minute crossing to Penneshaw on Kangaroo Island.

There are many moments on the island that will keep flashing back in my mind. The early morning walk along the bay in Kingscote, the charming main town on the island, visiting the Remarkable Rocks and seeing the coastline framed by Admirals Arch.

ON TOUR WITH US

I’m looking forward to returning, hopefully with you, on our West Travel Club tour to South Australia.

The tour features the best of South Australia. The adventure begins in Adelaide and includes a four-night Murray River Cruise onboard the paddlewheeler PS Murray Princess, a full day tour of the Barossa Valley and Hahndorf village with lunch and wine tastings.

Along the way I’ll share the photographic skills I have acquired during several decades working as a press photographer with The West Australian.

I’ll be on hand throughout the trip to help you collect sets of memorable photographs that capture the essence of the experiences from the trip.
