More COVID drama for Perth Wildcats as Sunday’s New Zealand clash postponed | Ralph Lauren

Tomorrow’s NBL clash between the Perth Wildcats and New Zealand Breakers at RAC Arena has been called off after the visitors were unable to travel to WA.

The Breakers played in Adelaide during the week and then several players reported feeling unwell. The squad underwent COVID-19 tests as a precaution but are not allowed to board today’s flight without those results.

The league has announced the match will now be played at a yet to be determined date.

“We are following the NBL’s strict protocols,” NBL Commissioner Jeremy Loeliger said.

“The team is unable to travel because it can’t meet pre-boarding health requirements and so its travel has been deferred. They will remain in isolation in Adelaide until they can meet their travel requirements.”

The postponement continues Perth’s extraordinary start to the NBL season. They almost had their pre-season game against The Hawks cancelled in December following the outbreak in NSW, then got stuck in Queensland when Brisbane reported a new strain of COVID-19.

The players and coaches were forced to quarantine for 14 days upon returning home.

Perth suffered a heart breaking one-point loss to South East Melbourne last night and must now hope the Breakers can travel to WA next week for what would have been the second clash between the clubs.

The Wildcats are scheduled to play New Zealand on Friday night and then travel to Victoria to face Melbourne United.
