A New Zealander has gone missing after setting out for a swim in the Brisbane River, with a search underway to find him.
Tane Huffman, 32, went swimming by himself near Kholo Creek, southwest of Brisbane, between 10.30 and 11am on Saturday.
He was reported missing on Sunday morning after failing to contact his family or return to the rural property where they are staying.
Although believed to be a strong swimmer, Mr Huffman’s disappearance has prompted police and SES personnel to initiate a search of the river on foot, boats and vehicles including ATVs.
The police air division is also expected to assist in Sunday’s search effort.
Residents in the area are asked to check their properties and yards for Mr Huffman, who is described as Caucasian, tall, with a slim build, long beard and was last seen wearing only swim shorts.
