A man has been shot dead, several others have been injured and two people have been arrested after an alleged wild brawl over property broke out west of Brisbane.
The altercation, involving two groups of men known to each other, began around 5pm in Baden Jones Way in North Booval.
Police allege a 31-year-old died after he sustained multiple gunshot wounds, while another man is in a critical condition on Wednesday after sustaining head injuries from a baseball bat.
Two other people are in hospital – a man who was allegedly struck by a motor vehicle, and another man allegedly injured by a bat.
Police said on Wednesday the two groups had arranged to meet to discuss a property matter, but it allegedly escalated, spilling out from the footpath onto the street.
Detective Inspector Heath McQueen said up to nine people had been involved.
“This was a targeted attack. The two groups were known to each other and to police … The community does not need to be concerned for their safety,” Detective McQueen said.
“This was a dispute over property, as a result people have brought firearms and other weapons and the meeting has evolved very quickly from discussion to assault.”
He said a number of people involved were now assisting police with their inquiries, but others were being uncooperative.
Two people have so far been arrested.
“As the day evolves, hopefully we are able to put more pieces of the puzzle together,” Detective McQueen said.
“At this point, we are still looking for one to two persons. We are currently heavily resourced in relation to those persons, so we will find them shortly.”
Investigators urge anyone with information regarding the incident to contact police.
