Netflix juggernaut Bridgerton will continue to get audiences hot under the collar after being given the green light for a second season.

The streaming giant today announced the period drama would be return in true Bridgerton style — through a mock gossip page from Lady Whistledown.

While the first show focused on Daphne Bridgerton’s love story with the Duke of Hastings, the next instalment will tell the story of the eldest Bridgerton sibling — Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.

“Dearest Readers, the Ton are abuzz with the latest gossip, and so it is my honour to impart to you: Bridgerton shall officially return for a second season,” Netflix’s announcement read.

“I do hope you have stored a bottle of ratafia for this most delightful occasion.”

It went on to reveal that the series would return to production in the coming months and that the focus of the series would switch its focus to Anthony’s plight.

“This author has been reliably informed that Lord Anthony Bridgerton intends to dominate the social season. I will have my pen ready to report on any and all of his romantic activities,” the letter went on to say.

“However, gentle reader, before you set the comments section alight with requests for more sordid details, known that I am disinclined to report on the particulars at this time. Patience, after all, is a virtue. Yours Truly, Lady Whistledown.”

Since being released on Christmas Day, Bridgerton—which is based on a series of novels from author Julia Quinn—is on track to become one of Netflix’s biggest releases ever.

The streaming service has said that within a month of its release, it has predicted it would have been watched by 63 million households.

The books it is based on have also been flying up the best-sellers charts, with six of the eight novels currently making up the bulk of Australian online book-seller Booktopia’s Top 10 sales.

Each book focuses on a different character, with the second—The Viscount Who Loved Me—charting Anthony’s efforts to lock down a wife, but faces obstacles from his suitor’s older sister.
