Although all matches will be played indoors, those who attend the 2021 Barr and Standley 4th Bunbury Masters Carnival on January 30 will see plenty of stars.

“We do have a splatter of NBL championship rings which will be out on the court,” tournament director Rob Dempster said.

“In one team we have literally got Andrew Vlahov, Mike Ellis, Ricky Grace, Eric Watterson along with Ian Satie.”

Such is the appeal of the event, four courts — three at the South West Sports Centre and one at the Bunbury PCYC — will be required to ensure all matches can be completed in one day.

“Last year we had six women’s teams and 18 men’s teams,” he said.

“We have a similar number of women’s teams but this year we have 24 men’s teams. But there have been a couple of changes which have affected us.”

These changes relate to Basketball WA’s decision to bring forward the 2021 BWA Country Championships by a week. However Dempster, who has worked tirelessly to make this concept a success, is hopeful it will once again capture the imagination of the South West’s basketball community.
