ASX-listed gold explorer, Surefire Resources is poised for a resumption of drilling at its historic Yidby Road gold project in WA’s Murchison Goldfields. The new program will follow up on a bundle of recent exciting gold drill hits. The spectacular assay results from the company’s maiden round of RC drilling late last year featured a 56-metre intersection going an average grade of 1.97 grams per tonne gold from 44m down-hole including 4m at 14.47 g/t.
Other stand-out intercepts were 40m grading 3.01 g/t from 24m including 4m at 26.57 g/t, 36m at 1.51 g/t from 32m including 5m at 5.86 g/t and 17m at 1.74 g/t from 51m including 4m at 5.13 g/t.
Perth-based Surefire says drilling contractors and regulatory approvals have now been secured for the renewed program, paving the way for the next chapter in the Yidby Road campaign.
The latest program, slated to comprise 40 RC holes for an aggregate drilling coverage of 6,000m, is designed to test for down-dip, down-plunge and along-strike extensions to the thick porphyry-associated mineralised zones encountered by the company.
Surefire says the recent and historical drilling intersections have been returned from multiple zones across a 400m-wide auriferous corridor at Yidby Road.
According to the management, the structural corridor has only been tested over a strike length of 150m and is open along strike to the north-west and south-east and at depth, where drilling is now planned.
Surefire’s recently completed gravity survey pointed to extensions of the major north-west south-east-trending structural corridor associated with the gold mineralisation that it says may stretch for at least two kilometres.
The approval of the Yidby Road program of work has opened the way to commencing the major new RC drilling program at Yidby Road in the very near future. We are also very encouraged by the results of the detailed gravity survey, that looks to have defined the potentially mineralised structural corridor over at least 2km and highlighted key targets for repeats/extensions of the Yidby Road mineralisation for further regional scale drill-testing.
Surefire says its gold discovery at Yidby Road is hosted within a sheared and altered ultramafic/mafic unit and a large felsic porphyry intrusion up to 50m thick.
The Yidby Road project area takes in about 113 square kilometres of the Yalgoo-Singleton greenstone belt and has been subjected to only limited gold exploration over the past two decades.
It is surrounded by several significant gold projects including the Minjar, Kirkalocka, Mount Gibson and Rothsay gold projects, all within 70km of Yidby Road.
